You decide: “Peace or Punishment ?”

Original Short Story: #LearnedMan

August 17, 2023

(This story is inspired by a very close friend who was a victim of a drunk driver who decided on peace.)

"making choices between peace and punishment in the face of challenges and conflicts”.  #LearnedMan

In a quaint village nestled between Dillard Hills and lush forests, lived a wise elder named ElMorel. He was known throughout the land for his remarkable ability to maintain peace, even in the face of adversity. The villagers often sought his counsel, relying on his words of wisdom to guide their decisions.

One day, a young and impulsive villager named Khambirel found himself entangled in a web of misunderstandings and conflicts. Frustration and anger welled up within him, threatening to erupt like a volcano. He sought out ElMorel, hoping he could provide a solution.

With a serene smile, ElMorel invited Khambirel to sit under the ancient oak tree where he often held his discussions. "Khambirel, my friend, remember that life presents us with two paths: peace and punishment. It's not about what comes your way, but how you choose to respond," he began.

Khambirel listened intently as ElMorel shared a parable of two brothers who faced similar trials. One chose to react with aggression and vengeance, seeking to punish those he felt wronged him. The other, however, chose a path of understanding, seeking resolution through peaceful dialogue.

"You see, Khambirel," ElMorel continued, "the power to decide whether to embrace peace or punishment lies within you. By holding onto anger and resentment, you punish yourself. But by seeking understanding and forgiveness, you open the door to peace."

As weeks passed, Khambirel reflected on ElMorel words. He realized that his reactions were shaping the course of his life more than the challenges themselves. One day, when faced with another conflict, Khambirel chose to follow ElMorel guidance. Instead of reacting impulsively, he took a deep breath and approached the situation with a calm demeanor.

To his surprise, his measured response diffused the tension and led to a productive conversation. As time went on, Khambirel reputation for his newfound wisdom and peaceful resolutions grew. He began to mediate disputes in the village, helping others navigate their conflicts with grace and understanding.

Years later, as Khambirel sat under the same ancient oak tree with his own apprentice, he recounted the story of ElMorel guidance. "Remember, young one," he said, "we hold the power to decide whether we invite peace or punishment into our lives. It's a choice we make with each interaction, each decision."

And so, the legacy of choosing peace over punishment continued to flourish in the village, carried forward by those who understood the profound truth that ElMorel had shared long ago.
