When It’s Ok to Talk About Your “Secret Services”!

We’ve all heard the advice: “Don’t tell everybody your business.” And it’s solid advice—most times. Not everyone around you is rooting for your success, and not all ears are meant to hear your plans. There are dreams and personal ventures best kept close to the chest, protected from negative energy or unwanted opinions.

But, when it comes to certain kinds of service—community service—there’s a time when sharing is not only okay, but necessary.

When you're working on something bigger than yourself, like supporting a walk for cancer, kidney disease, mental health awareness, or Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), that’s not something you keep secret. When you’re rolling up your sleeves to beautify a neighborhood, fight homelessness, or provide holiday assistance for those in need, these are the times to let the world know about your “secret service.”

The beauty of community service lies in the fact that it’s meant to be shared. It’s a chance for us to come together, not just as individuals, but as a collective force of good. You never know who’s waiting for an invitation to jump in and help. It might be the neighbor who’s been looking for a way to get involved, or the co-worker who feels the same passion for the cause but didn’t know where to start.

We sometimes forget that speaking up about these efforts creates a ripple effect. One person’s initiative can inspire another, and before you know it, a small group turns into a movement. Sharing your involvement in a cause can spark interest, raise awareness, and, most importantly, gather support. We can’t solve some of the biggest issues on our own, but together, we can make a dent.

There’s a special kind of joy and satisfaction that comes from seeing people rally around a common purpose. The feeling of completion, knowing you’ve played a role in something bigger, something meaningful, is powerful. That’s when you don’t keep things under wraps. That’s when you invite as many hands, hearts, and minds to the table as possible.

Sure - keep your personal projects and plans protected, but when it comes to community service, tell everybody. Spread the word. Your “secret service” is only secret until you realize how much impact it can make when shared. Together, we can make real, lasting differences. Don’t keep that to yourself.
