Restricted or Limited?

Restricted or Limited?

These two words are used interchangeably. Swiftly -  Let’s highlight the difference and then quickly jump

into this nugget.

  • Restrictions often are temporary, but they also can be permanent, such as in the case of football injury or paralysis due to a spinal cord injury; as a result of this injury, you would be restricted from walking.

  • Limitations, on the other hand, do not prevent you from performing an activity. Limitations simply dictate how you perform the activity or how long you can perform it.

In essence,

  • Beach goers are restricted from entering the beach for the next 7 days.  This is clear - it’s temporary that you can not access (restricted from) the beach for a prescribed period of 7 days.  VS

  • Beach goers will have limited access to the beach for the next 7 days.  This too is clear - you can access the beach but will not have full access.  You may have to enter from a different access point.

Here’s the quick nugget!  What limitations have you placed or have been placed on your life - lately?

Maybe you have confused them with restrictions?

When possible, look to restrictions as limitations. Certainly, if you have a mild case of COVID and no remote work is available you are off work. However, if you are mildly ill and remote work is available - you are only limited from the office not work.

Find the alternate route.  When you hear sour news - sweeten it up with some sugar.  Don’t be restricted.  Certainly - obey the law of the land.  Adhere to rules and regulations.  Listen to your doctor.  However, don’t allow a restriction whether permanent or temporary to become the reason you miss out on your next best thing.

Once again, when you hear restrictions chalk them up as limitations and seek an alternate route. Be wise.

As I close, remember it’s not what happens to you it’s how you respond.  In my Bobby McFerrin's voice:

Here’s a little song I wrote

You might want to sing it note for note

Don’t worry be happy

Every life we have some trouble

When you worry you make it double

Don't worry be happy

Don't worry be happy now

Don't worry be happy

That’s it! Just want to keep this thing called #life - SIMPLE!  Remember to stay #Positive, #Plugged and #Present
