Today I start Chapter 33!
On September 3, 1992, shortly after we were cleared to return to school following the devastation of Hurricane Andrew, my journey with Broward County Public Schools began. That day was not without its own challenges—on my very first day as a part-time employee, while preparing to head to work, a bird flew into my windshield, cracking it. Yet, despite the odds, I persevered and made it to work.

At the time, I was juggling multiple responsibilities—balancing full-time high school with part-time work at the school board and a job at JByron’s—while also caring for my gravely ill mother, who sadly passed away just 30 days after my high school graduation.
Over the years, I continued to work for the school board, even while attending college locally. My commitment to both my education and my work was unwavering. Eventually, I transitioned to a permanent role within the school board, starting as a clerical employee. From there, my career blossomed—I became the first Privacy Officer for Broward County Schools, later moving into a specialist role overseeing the district's Workers' Compensation program. My journey then led me to become the Assistant Director of Transportation, managing an $80 million budget. After nearly three years in that role, I advanced to become the Human Resources Director for Broward County Schools, a role that added even more depth to my already fulfilling career. Most recently, I’ve stepped into the role of Director of Strategic Partnerships, now in my third month.
Reflecting on these 32 years of employment with Broward County Public Schools, I am filled with gratitude for this fulfilling journey. Along the way, I've also enjoyed other milestones—being inducted into the Hall of Fame with the Broward Education Foundation and even patenting #LEARNEDMan, a platform that has given me an incredible opportunity to reach over 60 million views across social media.
As I look back on that day, September 3, 1992, I am thankful for the path I’ve traveled. It’s been an incredible ride, and I owe it all to God. Amen.
Today, September 3, 2024, I start chapter 33.
